Other Stuff - We are Not Just Limited to Sewage Treatment.

Most of this web-site deals with sewage and wastewater, but this is only a tiny bit of the business of I.H.S. Systems. Essentially, we are Civil Engineers who have chosen to specialise in water based projects. Sewage is a major part of our operations because.... well .... there is a lot of it around, but we also deal with drinking water, river water, and rainwater. We also work on water related projects such as river bank protection, repairs to weirs and sluices, installation of hydro-electric generators, and even the occasional bridge or two. Whether or not you believe that humans are causing climate change, it is obvious that weather patterns have altered, and this has increased the frequency of flooding. Sadly, the strategy in this country with regard to flooding is to wait for the water to subside, and then pretend that it will not happen again. I.H.S. Systems have designed flood defence schemes to mitigate the effects of heavy rainfall by controlled flooding of non-sensitive areas. Sometimes our contracts border on FUN rather than the more practical things of life. In the good old days, anyone who was anyone had a large ornamental lake created on their property, usually employing gentlemen such as Mr 'Capability' Brown to oversee the work. These skills still exist, and I.H.S. Systems are pleased to be able to re-create the magnificent waterscapes of days gone by. If the grounds of your property are not quite as extensive as those of Blenheim Palace or Chatsworth House, we can change the scale to create slightly more modest water features. Another feature of modern life is recycling. This term is often applied to rubbish, but it can also refer to water. Rainwater automatically recycles itself, but when the purified version from the tap is used it now costs us lots of money. This is where rainwater harvesting comes into its own. Forget the water butt with its stock of little wriggling crestures. Think of a large storage tank concealed in a corner of the garden, or buried underground which can supply the water for W.C.'s, the washing machine, the outside tap, or any other non-drinking water application. After the cost of the storage facility, the water is free of charge. I.H.S. Systems can advise on the supply and installation of a harvesting system. |
